Lipoedema care by the orthotist
Lipoedema is a chronic disease mainly affecting the legs (and sometimes the arms), characterised by a disproportionate and painful build-up of fatty tissue.
It often comes with sensitivity to touch, easy bruising, heaviness and sometimes associated oedema.
Medical compression is one of the recommended treatments, as it reduces pain, limits inflammation and improves everyday comfort.

Choosing suitable compression
Lipoedema often requires:
- Made-to-measure stockings or tights that follow the specific shape of the legs
- Soft, breathable fabrics that are easier to tolerate than standard compression
- Targeted pain-relieving or evenly distributed pressure textiles, better tolerated day to day
Fittings, adjustments and advice on use
- Checking comfort and tolerance
- Adapting sensitive areas
- Advice on putting on, caring for and using the garments every day
Additional aids as needed
For certain stages of lipoedema, the orthotist may recommend:
- Adjustable systems (wraps) for gentler, more adaptable compression
- Juzo Soft Compress for sensitive or fibrotic areas

- Limit inflammation and pressure in the tissues
- Improve mobility and comfort when walking
- Stabilise the volume of the legs
- Prevent secondary lymphoedema (lipo-lymphoedema)
What type of compression for lipoedema?
Depending on the stage and the patient’s sensitivity, we use:
- Compression socks, stockings or tights
- Made-to-measure tights to fit the specific shape of the legs
- Adjustable systems (wraps) for adaptable, gentler compression
- Supple, more tolerable materials (ideal for painful areas)
- Night-time devices when inflammation is significant
